I started Couch to 5K today. It went by a lot quicker than I thought it would. I did it on the treadmill and it was really easy to pace myself. I was really surprised by how much I was sweating at the end, almost as much as my workout this morning which was twice as long. I’m looking forward to doing it again tomorrow morning.
Today was the last class day for Weight Training and Conditioning, I’m so sad! I will really miss working out with everyone in the class setting, it was a huge motivation to see other people sweating through the same workouts.
We did a circuit today, 30 jumping jacks, 20 squats, 15 burpees (I cheated out on this one a lot, only did like 10, sorry not sorry), 15 hip bridges, 10 tricep dips, 10 pushups, then run 1/6 mile (2 laps on our baby indoor track), then repeat the circuit x2.
Then we did the P90X ab workout. In and outs, bicycles, crunchy frog, cross leg/wide leg situps, fifer scissors, hip rock and raise, pulse ups, v-up/roll up, oblique v-ups, leg climbs, and mason twists.
I liked most of them, but there were a few that were difficult to do with my limited spinal mobility. I couldn’t finish all the reps for some of the exercises but I plan on including my favorites into future circuit workouts.
I’m so glad that I joined this class and came to every session, except the one where I had a stomach virus. I learned a lot about good workouts and motivation and how to push my limits. My body is definitely stronger than I gave it credit for, and I’m excited to take all this knowledge that I’ve gained and keep working.
Tonight I’m starting the Couch to 5K training so that I can improve my running endurance. I’m excited to start, and especially excited to see results.
We had our fitness test in class today. One minute to do as many as possible pushups (I did modified ones), body weight squats, and situps. I improved on each of them so I’m glad. It felt like it took a lot less effort than at the beginning of the semester.
My mile and a half walk/jog only improved by 30 seconds, but I jugged the last half mile straight through at a steady pace so I’m really proud. I didn’t feel like I was gonna die either so I probably could have gone longer. It’s a huge improvement from the beginning of the semester where I could only jog for about a minute and a half.
Oh my goodness I just had the most intense workout in class. We were in teams of two for the first part. One person would push a 45 lb plate down the basketball court to the opposite 3 point line and back, the other would squat, then switch. Then one person lunges down and back while the other does jumping jacks. Then run down and back to the opposite wall twice while the other does pushups. Then do plate push again with wall sit, then again with situps.
Then, oh God, the stairs. Normal, skip a step, hop up, karaoke, normal x 3, skip x 3.
20 leg lifts, 20 toe touches (lying on back reaching up), 20 side crunches (each side).
I think we were supposed to go back and do more relay stuff but the coach took pity on us. My quads have never gotten to the point of exhaustion more quickly than with the plate push.
Tuesday will be equally, if not more, intense than today. I can’t wait because I’ve been wanting to try this one workout for a while.
Good workout today, a repeat of Thursday but I made it to one more set. I’m worried though because my right IT band is really sore and tender, I couldn’t even make it halfway down in a lunge on that leg. I didn’t push it because I didn’t want to hurt myself further, and I hope I didn’t do too much.
I stretched it repeatedly throughout my workout, and I will probably forgo an intense workout tomorrow for a nice long walk. I’m not really sure what else to do for this kind of injury except stretch and take pain/swelling reducers. Anybody have a suggestion?
Killed it at the gym today, we did a new circuit and I think this is my favorite by far.
10lb dumbbells for everything except pushups, start with 10 of everything then jog 1/6 mile. Decrease by one rep for each set. So 10, run, 9, run, etc down to 6, then class time was over. Took about an hour.
-Squats
-Lunges
-Pushups
-Single leg Russian deadlifts
-Bent over rows
-Bicep curls to overhead press
I could have probably sped it up and done more but I like to go slow and focus on form and muscle contractions. This was a lot of fun and a real challenge because I’m not used to the heavier weights yet. We are doing this again Tuesday and I’m looking forward to it.
Decent workout today. 20 min cardio, 40 minutes strength including bench press, deadlifts, bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, side/front arm raises, bent over dumbbell rows, bent over chest flys, lunges, squats, medicine ball woodchops, medicine ball russian twists, and a 45 second plank. I upped my weight on everything except the bench press, for some reason it’s really difficult for me to make progress on that. The bar was occupied so I used the machine, and I think it makes my form weird.
Fire 45 today, I definitely killed it. I noticed that I’ve worked out nearly every day for the past two and a half weeks. I’m so happy with myself, I just have to keep it up!
Just had one of the best workouts ever in class. We did thirty minutes running bleachers with some squats and pushups thrown in, then went back to the gym for arms and abs. I finished bleachers exactly an hour ago and my legs are still shaking. Damn. I was going to come back and do HIIT 25 right after but I think I’ll leave that for tonight. I definitely need a little recovery time.
PS: I woke up cramping really bad, but I went to class anyway. I’m so glad I did.
Had an amazing workout with Fire 45 EZ. I’m pretty proud of myself for getting up early on a Monday to workout. Now to work on the weekends, haha. I love all this energy I’m feeling. If I could only get my coffee maker to work it would be a perfect day.
Lord have mercy I am tired. Fire 55 kicked my butt! I think once I become more familiar with the choreography I will be able to put more intensity into it. Damn I cannot believe I just jumped around for an hour. lol
Just finished Fire 30 again! All I could think during was how freakishly thirsty I was. I didn’t want to be bouncing around with a tummy full of water though because it might have made me queasy so I only sipped until I was done. This was my second workout today.
This morning in class I biked for 20 minutes then focused on upper body with some lower and abs. I found a really good move to target my upper abs that I’ll be adding in from now on. Because of my fused spine most core exercises only work my lower abs to exhaustion.
I’m a little nervous for my workout tomorrow, it’s the longest Turbofire DVD, Fire 55 EZ, and I’m sooo sore. I really hope I’m not overworking myself.
One good thing about two workouts today is I get two squares of Dove dark chocolate now. Yay me! ;)
Decided to buck up and get my money’s worth out of Turbo Fire. This morning I did HIIT 15 and Fire 30, and I’m definitely feeling the burn. My growing willpower and drive to succeed is really exciting. I’m looking forward to the gym tomorrow morning and another TF session in the evening.
The MyFitnessPal app is really helping too. It’s so encouraging to see my intake and exercise combine to affect my net caloric intake.
So I haven’t been hiding under a rock recently, I just went on spring break. Long story short, I did pretty well sticking to healthy food and activity. Today was my first serious day back at the gym, and my workout was amazing. I’m a little disappointed with my running, I felt like my quads got exhausted a lot more quickly from squats and lunges than they usually do. Maybe an extra walk tonight will help.
I think I ate half my weight in pico de gallo over the break, and I’m having a love affair with cilantro right now. I was going to make a big pico batch to go with my morning omelets but I forgot to buy limes at the store! Woe is me, I made spicy salsa instead. I’m really enjoying my new found cravings for all these great veggies.
PS: Hi to all the new followers! Y’all made my morning today. C:
